Analysis of pain drawings is an emerging technology. Pain drawings document where a person reports pain.
These patterns can vary from fake drawings to patterns that match known pain sources to unique patterns from as yet undiscovered sources,
or combinations of sources and modulations through the complex interaction of the many parts of the brain that influence expression.
Manual pain drawing analysis can involve assessing drawings for indications of 'psychological involvement' and estimates of the
area involved expressed as a percentage of total body area.
